Response to recent media reports regarding the use of Maltese milk in Italy

In response to recent media coverage concerning the alleged misuse of Maltese milk in a foreign jurisdiction, we wish to clarify the facts surrounding our operations.

Malta Dairy Products has been exporting milk to international clients for many years, in full compliance with all applicable EU food safety and documentation regulations.

The milk exported:

Is accompanied by full documentation clearly stating its origin and treatment method

To date, we have not been officially contacted by any authorities in connection with this matter, and therefore we are not in a position to confirm the accuracy or context of what has been reported.

It is important to emphasise that how and where the milk is used after delivery is entirely the responsibility of the buyer, and falls outside the control of the producer, once the product has been sold and delivered transparently and in line with all legal requirements.

Malta’s milk sector follows a seasonal production cycle, where for approximately nine months of the year, the country produces more milk than is needed for local consumption, allowing for the export of excess volumes to international clients — primarily to nearby markets, given geographical and logistical advantages.

During the peak summer months, milk output naturally declines due to higher temperatures, and local production tends to match domestic demand more closely. This variation is a normal characteristic of dairy production in warmer climates and depends on seasonal weather conditions.

It is also worth noting that Malta Dairy Products has never imported milk to date.

As a company, we:

Operate under strict internal quality and traceability systems

Are fully committed to integrity, transparency, and compliance

Have no involvement whatsoever in any form of misrepresentation or misuse of the product beyond the point of sale

We remain committed to upholding the reputation of Malta’s milk sector and the trust our brand has built with consumers both locally and abroad.
